Privacy Policy

TruCustom is a product personalization service operated by Truwear® Services. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do not collect.

In short

  • We store the designs shoppers create — the text, images, and artwork they add to a product.
  • We do not receive shopper names, email addresses, phone numbers, or payment details from the stores we integrate with.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
  • Design content can contain personal data — a name on a jersey, a photo on a shirt — so it is treated as personal data here.

Who this policy covers

TruCustom is used in two ways, and both are covered:

  • Shoppers who personalize a product on a store that uses TruCustom.
  • Merchants who connect a store to TruCustom and use our dashboard.

When you personalize a product on a merchant's store, that merchant decides what is sold and how your order is fulfilled. TruCustom processes design data on their behalf.

What we collect

Data Why
Design content — text you type, images you upload, clipart and shapes you add, and their placement on the product To show you your design, save it so you can come back to it, and produce the print-ready file the item is made from
Rendered images — a preview of your design on the product, and the artwork on its own The preview confirms what you approved; the artwork is what gets printed
A design identifier stored in your browser So a saved design is still there if you reload the page, and so the right design reaches the right order line
The product and variant you selected A design is tied to the exact item and colour it was made for, so the wrong version is never printed
Merchant account details — dashboard login, and the API credentials for a connected store To sign merchants in and to read the store's product catalog
Product catalog data from a connected store So products can be made customizable

Design content is personal data when you put personal details in it. A name, a nickname, a team roster, or a photograph of someone are all common on personalized products, so we treat design content as personal data throughout this policy.

What we do not collect

This is worth stating plainly, because it is the part people assume:

  • We do not receive your name, email address, phone number, or shipping address from the store. Those go to the merchant through the store's own checkout and never pass through TruCustom.
  • We do not receive or store payment details of any kind. We never touch checkout.
  • Our Shopify app requests no access to customer or order data. On Shopify, the only store data TruCustom reads is the product catalog.
  • We do not use tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not build profiles of shoppers.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only where it is needed to make the product you ordered:

  • The merchant you ordered from. A reference to your design, and links to the preview and the artwork, are attached to your order line so they know what to make.
  • The team that produces the item — in-house or a production partner — who need the artwork file to print it.
  • Service providers that host and store the service on our behalf, under contract and only for that purpose.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Designs and their artwork are kept as a record of what was ordered. A merchant needs them to fulfil the order, to reprint a damaged item, to handle a return, and to answer a question about an order months later — so they are retained after an order is placed rather than deleted at checkout.

Merchant account and store data is kept for as long as the account is open.

Browser storage

The customizer saves a design identifier in your browser's local and session storage so that reloading the page, or coming back to it, does not lose work you have not finished. This is not used for tracking or advertising. Clearing your browser storage removes it, and you will simply start a new design next time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used.

Because we process design data on a merchant's behalf, the fastest route is usually to contact the store you ordered from — they can raise it with us directly. You can also reach us at [email protected] and we will respond, and pass anything we need to the relevant merchant.

Where an order has already been produced, we may need to keep a record of what was made even after a deletion request, to the extent the law allows.

Shopify stores

If you reached TruCustom through a Shopify store, our app supports Shopify's privacy requests. When Shopify sends us a customer data request, a customer deletion request, or notice that a shop has been closed, we act on it.

Our Shopify app holds no customer contact details to begin with, so a deletion request removes any customer-identifying fields we hold and we confirm the request. Records of what was ordered and produced are retained as described under How long we keep it.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on access-controlled infrastructure. Store API credentials are used only to read a merchant's catalog and are never exposed to storefront visitors. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable measures to protect what we hold.

Children

TruCustom is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Personalized items are often bought for children by an adult — in that case the design is provided by the adult placing the order.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated to merchants directly.
